Woman dies after fire in Evergreen

Smoke detectors alerted many of the townhome residents to the fire, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue.

EVERGREEN, Colo. — A woman in her 50s was found dead after a fire at a townhome in Evergreen early Tuesday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Evergreen Fire Rescue (EFR) responded to the townhome fire early Tuesday morning on Silver Spruce Lane.

Fire crews said smoke alarms provided residents with an early warning about the fire, allowing many of them to get out of the building quickly.

The sheriff's office is investigating how the woman died, which is standard procedure in a case like this.

EFR said later Tuesday that investigators determined the fire was accidental. They said they're looking into an area near a wood-burning fireplace as they investigate the origin of the fire.
