Max McCue smashes a golf ball into his garage door in his Denver backyard. Luckily Max is only two and the golf balls are plastic.
“He loves playing outside. He loves sports,” said Max’s father Mark McCue while watching his son play.
As the twosome move to a seat on the back porch, Mark takes some sports cards from his pocket.
“He loves football cards and baseball cards,” Mark said. “It started at Rockies games. They give out baseball cards, and he got one. It became a coveted toy.”
So coveted that Mark and his wife Calley give Max the cards as he goes down to sleep. Maybe osmosis is how he came to know his favorite Broncos players just from looking at the cards. Max thumbs through the cards, and picks one out.
He easily names the players on the cards. Case Keenum, Bradley Chubb, and Demaryius Thomas are just a few Max knows.
“We read to him, and he knows books,” said Mark.
He realized his son’s skill when Max dropped some cards, picked one up and said, “Von Miller.”
Mark says it steamrolled after that. Watching his son grow into a little Broncos fan is a time Mark will always cherish.
“It’s a proud dad moment, for sure,” he said.
