Ride for Life raises money for mental health services for first responders

The Ride For Life is Saturday, July 14. It raises money for mental health resources for first responders.

KUSA - They’re often hailed as heroes but through the tough exterior firefighters and EMS personnel see some awful things on the job.

A lot of the time they have a hard time dealing with it, talking about it and reaching out for help. Statistics show we lose a firefighter or EMS member every 2.9 days

Brandee Wharton’s father was a Denver Firefighter. No one knew he was suffering and in 1994 he took his own life.

She has decided to put on a poker run called ‘Ride for Life’ to raise money for PTSD and mental health services with the fire service and raises awareness about the issue.

She joined and Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley joined us Monday morning to talk about the need and the help that’s available for our everyday heroes.

The Ride for Life is this Saturday, July 14, at Dirty Dogs Roadhouse and Wrigley’s Chicago Bar and Grill in Golden from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
