Denver — Editor's note: The "You Are Here" trivia series looks at Denver landmarks past and present. We reveal the answer to a set of clues in the 10 p.m. newscast.

The Historic Elitch Theatre has fallen on some hard times recently, but the old Denver landmark is still a popular place for families today, just as it was 100 years ago.

Mary Elitch opened the theatre in the late 1800s.

According to the theatre's website, she and her husband John had planned to open the theatre together, but he died after getting ill during a trip to San Francisco.

The site had first been a farm that the couple used to grow fruits and vegetables for a restaurant they owned.

After selling the restaurant, they turned the farm into Elitch's Zoological Gardens.

The theatre was added after a year of successfully running the gardens.

Mary made the theatre a place for children to explore their talents in acting, dancing and painting -- holding several "children's days" at the theatre.

According to the theatre's website, an 11-year-old girl nicknamed "Tony," who made her debut on the Elitch stage, grew up to be the famous Broadway producer Antoinette Perry, the namesake of the "Tony Awards."

For 100 years the theatre entertained families, up until its last production in 1991.

After that, it fell into disrepair.

The Historic Elitch Gardens Theatre Foundation was created in 2002 in an effort to restore the theatre to its former glory, and create sustainable programming.

Children's days are still happening there today.

The theatre typically holds summer programming, but this year that had to be canceled because a storm caused $800,000 in damages that are still being repaired.

The Historic Elitch Gardens Theatre Foundation will be holding its first Elitch Theatre Children's Day International Film Festival later this year at the Bug Theatre.
