REDSTONE — About 18 miles from Carbondale in the remote town of Redstone, Steve Carver has spent the last year working to give the Redstone Castle a massive renovation.
That renovation is now complete, according to a post on the Redstone Castle Facebook page.
“We call it eating an elephant from the inside out," Carver said.
First built by Charles Osgood in 1902, the 24,000-square foot, 42-room castle has primarily been a secluded private residence but now it’s being updated, improved and the history preserved.

“My wife April has done a wonderful job decorating and fitting in with the historical motif,” Carver said.
Now for the first time in almost 20 years, the doors are opening, and this century-old property is being run as a boutique hotel.
“We made 11 luxury boutique suites in the castle. Each suite has its own bedroom, its own bathroom, and its own sitting room," said Carver.
The rooms are around 500-square-feet, have private updated bathrooms and sitting rooms, and will be available around October. There will also be special events and historic tours offered. In fact, two of the rooms belonging to Osgood and his wife have been left as they were 116 years ago and will be included on the tour.
The Castle “brings back the luxury he ... brought to western Colorado,” Carver said.
