Frozen pipe bursts and damages library

Recent cold weather caused a pipe to burst at a Summit County library, sending water all over the floor.

Summit County - At the Summit County Library in Frisco, director Joyce Dierauer likes things quiet but not as quiet as it's been lately.

The only noise recently has been fans Kevin Boylan and the restoration crew at Kinder Carpet set up after a sprinkler froze in the recent 20-below weather—sending water all over the floor.

None of the books were damaged but to get the carpet dry the shelves needed to be moved, which meant nearly every book had to be moved too.

"We had to break down all the book shelves and move all the books and now we have the carpet drying under the bookshelves," Boylan said.

Thousands of books were moved off their shelves and placed away from the water. Now the library staff—along with the help from the restoration crew—are working to put the books back to ensure the library reopens no later than Friday, Jan. 2.

"Thankfully in 28 years, this is the worst thing that has happened and may it never happen again while I'm still here," Dierauer said.
