Here's how much Denver made in street sweeping tickets last year

Street sweeping starts again on April 4 -- so remember to move your car! (unless you love paying $50 tickets)

Denver street sweeper.

If you live in Denver and aren’t blessed enough to have dedicated, off-site parking, then at some point – no matter how good you are at reading signs – you’ve probably woken up to that familiar yellow envelope blowing in the wind as it rests on your windshield or car door.

We’re talking about street sweeping tickets, and last year, the city of Denver made $6.9 million off of them.

If you don’t want to add to that number (and who does) here’s a quick reminder: street sweeping starts again on April 4. Check the signs on your street to make sure it’s not parked in the wrong place on the wrong day – otherwise, you’ll get a $50 ticket.

Why do you have to do this? It’s so crews can sweep all the way to the curb line. Their goal is to remove dirt and debris so it stays out of the air and water.

Last year, Denver Public Works street maintenance crews swept more than 143,000 lane miles and collected nearly 63,000 yards of dirt and debris.

To make sure you remember to move your car, sign up for reminders through the Pocketgov app.
