Investigation continues into crash that killed Trooper Moden

Modén, 37, was on foot and outside his patrol car on Interstate 70 near Deer Trail when he was struck by a Ford F-250 at about 9:40 p.m. Friday

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Editor's Note: Colorado State Patrol will no longer be closing Interstate 70 for the crash investigation. 9NEWS will continue to update the story.

--------

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 will close Thursday evening between Peoria Road and Deer Trail to allow the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) to further investigate the crash that killed Trooper William Moden.

Modén, 37, was on foot and outside his patrol car on Interstate 70 near Deer Trail when he was struck by a Ford F-250 at about 9:40 p.m. Friday, said CSP Colonel Matthew Packard.

Modén was in the area investigating an earlier rollover crash. The driver who hit the trooper has only been identified as a Colorado man. He's been cooperating with the investigation and is not believed to have been impaired at the time, according to Packard.

Drivers will be rerouted from eastbound I-70 south to Highway 40 to detour around the closure. Drivers can take Highway 40 east to Cedar Street, go north on Cedar Street and can return to I-70 eastbound from there.

There's no information right now about CSP is hoping to find by going back to the crash nearly a week later.
