Denver Business Journal — Colorado employers added 7,200 non-farm jobs to their payrolls in April.

The number of people actively participating in the state's labor force increased by 6,800 to just over 3 million, according to the latest report from the Colorado Department of Labor and employment.

Breaking down the numbers over the year, non-farm payroll jobs have increased 69,700, with an increase of 64,000 in the private sector and an increase of 5,700 in government. The biggest private sector job gains were in leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, and construction.

The number of unemployed dropped by 2,500, with 9,300 more people reporting themselves as employed. This caused the unemployment rate—which has held steady for months at 3 percent—to drop by a tenth of a point to 2.9 percent. That still beats the national rate, which dropped to 3.9 percent in April.
