Man hit and killed by vehicle while running from deputies identified

Interstate 25 was closed for hours during the investigation.

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 25 late Saturday night.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) said a Ford Fusion with expired tags was headed north on I-25 at around 9:15 p.m. LCSO said deputies conducted a traffic stop on the car, which exited the interstate at Mountain Vista Drive.

Deputies briefly talked to the man, later identified as 28-year-old Brent Thompson, driving and determined that he had given them a fake name, LCSO said. Deputies asked Thompson to get out of the car. When he did exit the car, he began running from deputies toward the interstate and deputies deployed a Taser, according to LCSO.

Thompson was then hit by a passing vehicle, deputies said. He was rushed to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, LCSO said.

None of the people in the vehicle that struck the man were injured, and no deputies were injured either, according to LCSO.

The 8th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has taken over the investigation, LCSO said.
