DENVER — On Friday, Governor Polis vetoed five bills, marking the first time he used the power since being elected.
Three of them had to do with licensing for different occupations: HOA managers, athletic agents and genetic counselors.
In his letters justifying the vetoes, the Governor argued that licensing can prevent minorities from getting those jobs and limit the number of workers. He also argued this would drive up costs.
Another of the bills would have made "changes to the budget submission requirements for major information technology (IT) projects" and required the Governor's office to assign a project manager for those projects.
In his letter, Polis said this bill would have complicated the process.
The final bill was about whether Native American tribes should have access to state databases to conduct background checks. Polis said in his letter he chose to veto the bill because it contained unintentional language that would have infringed on the tribes' sovereignty.
