Supporters want late-term abortion ban on Colorado's 2020 ballot

The proposal would ban abortion after 22 weeks, making it a class 3 felony -- a mother's health would be the only exception.

COLORADO, USA — A late-term abortion ban has made it to the secretary of state's office, as supporters try to get it on the ballot in Colorado.

Two women filed the proposal last week; they want Coloradans to vote on it in 2020.

The proposal would ban abortion after 22 weeks, making it a class 3 felony. A mother's health would be the only exception.

Colorado voters have rejected previous attempts to restrict abortion.

Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Colorado's chief elections officer, involved her office in the abortion debate recently.

She announced a boycott of the state of Alabama over its abortion ban, then allowed the political director of Planned Parenthood to edit her office's official statement.

Griswold's office will determine if the anti-abortion measure has enough valid signatures to appear on the ballot.
