Three officers were injured and a suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Denver on Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 2600 block of West Bates Avenue at about noon in an attempt to serve a suspect with several warrants.

As they approached the suspect, he escaped out of a rear window. Officers chased the man into the street where a confrontation ensued.

Police say the man fought with one of the officers over his service weapon. Several shots were fired, and the suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the officers were taken to the hospital with injuries sustained in the incident. The third officer’s injuries are non-life-threatening.

Bates Avenue is closed from Bryant to Decatur streets as police continue to investigate.
