Suspect arrested after man found dead inside Denver condo unit

Security officers at the complex at the complex on East Iliff Avenue reported the shooting and said they believed someone was dead in a unit.

DENVER — A man faces a first-degree murder charge after another man's body was found inside a Denver condo unit Thursday afternoon,  the Denver Police Department (DPD) said.

Around 1 p.m. on July 7, DPD received a 911 call from security officers at a condominium complex in the 9700 block of E. Iliff Avenue reporting that shots were fired inside a residence earlier that morning.

The security officers said they received information that an individual was dead inside the residence, DPD said.

A tactical team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene to assist and as tactical officers approached the residence, Kennedy Lakics climbed out of a back window of the unit and was detained without incident, according to police.

Officers then entered the unit and found a man dead inside with a gunshot wound. He has been identified as Brandon Ford, 39.

Lakics was identified as the suspect and was formally arrested, according to DPD.

He's being held for investigation of first-degree murder. The circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under investigation, but said they believe Lakics and Ford knew one another.
