DENVER — The man killed in a Friday evening shooting in Five Points has been identified as 24-year-old Guan-Nyanyak Riek by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

According to the Denver Police Department, Riek was shot in the 2300 block of Welton Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. He was rushed to Denver Health where he was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as gunshot wound — his death has been classified as a homicide.

Kalvin Thompson, 34, was arrested in connection to the death and is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in Riek's death.

Law enforcement has asked that photos of the suspect not be posted as not to jeopardize their investigation.
