AURORA — A 10-year-old girl reported missing in Aurora on Monday has been found safe and is receiving treatment, according to a Tuesday update by the Aurora Police Department.

Daniela Ruano-Morales was reported missing around 4 p.m. on Monday by family members after they had tried searching for her for several hours. She was last seen in the 1900 block of Elmira Street at around 10 a.m., according to the Aurora Police Department.

Just after noon on Tuesday, officers were notified that Ruano-Morales had been found by a distant relative in the Hoffman Heights neighborhood near East 6th Avenue and North Peoria Street. That's about 3 miles from where she was last seen.

Police said they believed the young girl had left on her own, but there were no prior incidents of her leaving. Officers are also still trying to determine how Ruano-Morales got to the Hoffman Heights area.

On Monday, police said there was nothing suspicious about her disappearance, but they were concerned because of her age and the fact she had been gone for so long.

Officers worked through the night knocking on doors and checking the area for the young girl, but didn't find her. An Endangered Missing Alert was issued for her via the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

Because there was no information that she had been abducted, her disappearance did not meet the requirements to issue an Amber Alert.
