Colorado Heights University announces it is closing

Colorado Heights University is the latest in a long line of educational institutions on that 76 acre campus on a hill along Federal Boulevard to announce it's closing.

The future of Denver's landmark Loretto Heights campus is now in doubt.

Colorado Heights University is the latest in a long line of educational institutions on that 76-acre campus on a hill, right along Federal Boulevard, to announce it's closing.

The university made the announcement late Tuesday afternoon, citing declining enrollment and an accreditation issue. Students will be on campus finishing degrees through next year.

A university spokesman said the non-profit that owns the land doesn't have a preference on whether its sold to another educational institutional - or a commercial developer.

But with classes scheduled through 2017, he said it's way to early to discuss a possible commercial development.
