Next Question: Who calls the weather delays at Red Rocks?

The show must go on, as the saying goes, unless the Red Rocks meteorologist says to stop.

Sometimes, the Next Question is coming from inside the house.

Next's own Steve Staeger and Marshall Zellinger were at a concert at the Barenaked Ladies concert at Red Rocks Tuesday night -- humble brag -- and got to wondering about who monitors the weather to decide if it's is too dangerous to have people outdoors there?

Do they have their own meteorologist on staff, they wondered as Steve and Marshall texted each other pictures of the radar from across the venue (this bromance isn't just for the cameras). As a storm passed through, they were sure the venue was going tell everyone to take cover, but they didn't, and the storm passed south.

This is what the radar looked like during the Barenaked Ladies show at Red Rocks on 6/19/18.

We checked in Wednesday and Red Rocks told us they contract a weather company that has a trained meteorologist watch the venue during the show and make the call, if it needs to be made.

“So if they see something that's in the area, they're giving us a call and saying there's severe that's 10 miles away, 8 miles away, 5 miles away, so forth,” Tad Bowman, venue director at Red Rocks, said. “They're keeping us in the loop and if we see anything that's an issue, we're giving them a call and getting updates on that from them, as well."

The staff there says if a storm pops, the safest place to take cover is your car. That's why they like to give plenty of notice. Red Rocks seats 9,500 people and the biggest place to take cover is the visitors center, which only has enough capacity for a thousand.
