The Olde Town Arvada Water Tower doesn’t serve an official purpose aside from standing there and looking pretty. It’s a town treasure, and has been since 1910.

But unlike Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé and Paul Rudd, the Olde Town Arvada Water Tower can’t help but show its age. Can you blame it? The tower’s endured more than a century of sun, wind, rain, snow and lightning at 150 feet above ground.

Arvada first added the water tower six years after the birth of the town to deal with a chronic water shortage. Water was pumped up from two wells on Grandview Avenue until the tower was decommissioned in 1977, when the words "Olde Town Arvada" were painted on. Arvada has continued to preserve it with facelifts along the way.The city will spend $237,000 on this project.Olde Town Arvada Water Tower's 106th birthday is Wednesday.
