Northglenn Police shoot, kill car theft suspect, injure another

One of the suspects was taken to the hospital and the other was pronounced dead on the scene.

Northglenn Police opened fire on two suspects who were inside a stolen car that accelerated toward officers early Wednesday morning, leaving one of them dead and another injured.

According to a news release from Northglenn Police, the shooting occurred at around 3:30 a.m. in the area of East 104th Place and Franklin Street.

A family says their daughter, 23-year-old Serina Minella, was one of two people shot.

For most of the day, they say they weren't able to get police to tell them basic information about her condition and location.

"No one's telling us anything," said Kevin McNerney, who says he is her father.

Throughout the day, he and Serina's stepmother, Donna Parker, tried calling authorities to find out where their daughter was.

It wasn't until just before 9:00 p.m. they say they even learned she was alive.

"Irregardless of what she did or didn't do, she deserves if she's in critical care in a hospital or wounded, she deserves her family," said Parker. "We want to know where she's at and if she's okay or not."

9Wants To Know spent hours contacting officials and was re-directed from Northglenn Police to Thornton Police to Westminster Police to the Adams County Sheriff.

It wasn't until after these calls that the family started getting answers.

They told us they now know Serina is alive, but in critical condition at Swedish Medical Center, and were told they can see her once they provide authorities with her birth certificate.

It's also unclear what charges Serina Minella might face.

The Adams County Coroner's Office has not identified the suspect who was killed.

SWAT officers were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The four Northglenn Officers involved in the shooting were put on routine administrative leave while a team from other law enforcement agencies investigates.
