One dead in gas station shooting, suspect in custody

CENTENNIAL – A man shot his friend to death at a gas station following an argument Friday evening.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m.Police say the men were arguing in a car at a gas station at East Smoky Hill Road and South Himalaya.One of the men shot the other inside the car at point blank range. Police say the victim then stumbled out of the car and the suspect sped off. The victim has been identified as Philip Munn Pierce, 19. An off-duty sheriff's deputy, pumping gas at the time, called for help immediately.Pierce was transported toan areahospital, where he died.The suspect, 18-year-old Yugene Eduardo Johnson,was arrested a short time later. Police say Johnson returned to the scene and surrendered himself toArapahoe County sheriff's deputies. Johnson is currently being held at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detentions Facility without bond.
