DENVER — There’s a lot happening in Five Points, and Denver-based Palisade Partners is playing a big role in five projects that could help shape the area’s future.

One of those projects is the famous Rossonian Hotel, which Palisade purchased in 2017 for $6 million. It has a vision to transform the underutilized, former jazz hotspot back to its original glory, as a hotel, restaurant and jazz club. The hotel was built in 1912 and in its heyday hosted legendary musicians including Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday.

“I think the Rossonian has always been considered the crown jewel of the Welton Street corridor,” said Five Points Business District Executive Director Tracy Winchester. This is partly because of its history with the jazz greats, but also the fact that African American musicians, actors and artists could actually stay in the hotel after performances, unlike other hotels in town.

Winchester said it instilled a lot of pride and joy for the African American community, that greats like Louis Armstrong came “right into our neighborhood, and stayed in our neighborhood.”

Palisade partnered with local basketball legend Chauncey Billups on the restaurant and lounge portions of the project, which will be named after him.
