Police searching for driver who hit and killed pedestrian in Greeley

Greeley police are searching for the driver of a black pickup truck that hit a pedestrian at a crosswalk Saturday night.

GREELEY, Colo. — A man died after being hit by the driver of a pickup truck at a crosswalk in Greeley on Saturday evening, according to the Greeley Police Department (GPD).

Police said the crash happened Saturday around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of 35th Avenue and 4th Street. The driver left before officers arrived, police said.

When first responders arrived, they found a 53-year-old man with severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His name has not yet been released.

Police said multiple witnesses described the truck that hit the pedestrian as a black four-door pickup, possibly a Dodge Ram 1500, likely a 2008 or newer model. The truck has chrome trim on the sides. The truck may also have damage to the front driver's side.

The truck and driver left the scene headed southbound on 35th Avenue, police said.

Police are asking home and business owners in the area around 35th Avenue and 4th Street, including neighborhood side streets, to check their surveillance systems from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Anyone who finds video footage, has additional information about this case, or witnessed any portion of it, is asked to call Officer Tharp or Officer Wegscheider at 970-350-9533.
