DENVER (AP) - Rep. Doug Lamborn's family is earning more than $20,000 from his re-election campaign.
Lamborn was handily re-elected to a fifth term this November representing Colorado's fifth Congressional district around Colorado Springs. He raised $590,000 for his campaign and paid his wife Jeanie $14,000 for campaign management and other duties. The campaign reimbursed Lamborn for $3500 worth of mileage in 2014. The campaign also paid Lamborn $2772 in interest on what he had described as a $100,000 no-interest loan to his re-election campaign.
The Colorado Springs Independent first reported the payments and calculated that Lamborn would have had to have driven nearly 5,000 miles to earn the travel reimbursement.
A Lamborn spokesman said the loan was intended to accrue interest and that the other payments were also appropriate.
