A 50-year-old man died following a rafting accident on the Roaring Fork River in Pitkin County Wednesday morning.
Just after 11 a.m. the Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call about rafters in distress downriver from Stein Park on the Roaring Fork River.
Around that same time, a Ranger with Pitkin County Open Space reported an overturned raft with two people in the river. The ranger told dispatch that someone was already performing CPR on a man on the river bank. That man was later pronounced dead.
The sheriff's office says the victim was among a group of five other rafters, plus one guide, on a trip with Aspen Whitewater Rafting, based in Aspen.
The victim's name is not being released until next of kin has been notified.
The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office says all rivers are running very high due to snowmelt and runoff. Everyone is urged to use extra caution.
