School bus driver cited in crash that injured 3 students

CSP said the driver was driving too fast for conditions before the bus rolled off the road.

HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo. — Three students were injured when a school bus went off the road in Huerfano County Tuesday, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

CSP said the bus was heading down Highway 69 near Walsenburg just after 7 a.m. when the driver lost control, causing the bus to roll off the road and down a hill.

The students riding the bus were ages 19, 16 and 15. All three were taken to hospitals, according to CSP. The 15-year-old was seriously injured. The driver was not hurt.

CSP said there was black ice on the road. The driver was cited with three counts of careless driving causing injury and one count of driving too fast for conditions.
