Serial Killer's father selling DVD of son's videotaped confession

DENVER - The father of a confessed serial killer is selling DVD copies of his son's videotaped statement to police describing how he lured women to his house and then strangled them to death.

Randolph "Duke" White is selling a DVD he calls "Denver's Linkin Park Strangler" for $39.95. He said a portion of the money will go to the children of White's victims."If we can do something for (the victims' children), it would be really good," said Duke White, of Mesita, near the Colorado-New Mexico border. "I hope that (the DVD) will answer some of the questions about this case. It seems like the right thing for me to do."Larry Gonzales, the father of one of White's victims, Annaletia Gonzales, said he has never heard from Duke White. He said his granddaughter is 10 and must grow up without her mother."It angers me. His son killed my daughter," said Gonzales, who lives in Vermont. "He is making a profit off of my daughter. He should be getting nothing."Gonzales said he thinks Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey should investigate where the money is going. Morrissey declined to comment Friday. But Craig Silverman, a former Denver chief deputy district attorney, said Colorado has a strong law intended to thwart people from making money off of crimes."I would be very afraid of this law if I was Mr. White's father," Silverman said. The so-called "Son of Sam laws" were created after publishers offered New York serial killer David Berkowitz, nicknamed "Son of Sam," large sums of money for his story about randomly killing six people in the 1970s.Duke White said Friday that he has sold some copies of the DVD but that the proceeds haven't covered the costs of producing it yet, and none of the money has gone to the children of victims his son buried in his backyard. The website advertising the DVD had been down for a time because Duke White was unable to pay the Web fees, he said. It was back up Sunday. He said he has not contacted any family members of his son's victims yet. The money, he said, will go into any bank account set up for the children of his victims. To read the complete story - click on the link to The Denver Post.
