Slow for Cone Zone campaign hopes to save lives

DENVER- The Colorado Department of Transportation is kicking off a new campaign this summer to keep drivers and workers safe on the roadways.

The Slow for Cone Zone campaign targets unsafe driving practices by increasing overtime enforcement.

This enforcement includes more photo radar and officers to check driver speeds.

In the past 5 years there have been 62 work zone fatalities, 85 percent of those have been motorists or occupants, not highway workers.

With over 150 construction sites statewide, CDOT is hoping Slow for Cone Zone increases safety.

CDOT has created a bi-directional safety trailer to help keep workers safe. The device is designed to prevent vehicles from entering a work zone from either direction.
