This oh-so-Fort Collins class is teaching dogs brewery manners

"Drink With Your Dog: Brewery Manners" is a four-week course that fits into the culture of beer-soaked Fort Collins.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — On a recent Wednesday evening, New Belgium Brewery had gone to the dogs. 

Beyond the Fort Collins brewery's staff room doors, pups dotted the floor, idling near their owners as part of Amber Quann's first official brewery manners dog training course. 

"I'm going to come around and create a distraction, so be ready with some treats," Quann said, her short blond hair pulled into a spiky ponytail, a fanny pack saddled on her hips. 

"Very good job, Harper!" Quann affirmed as a brindle-colored dog with chocolate brown eyes remained stoic next to her owner. 

Flitting around like a pixie, Quann — who owns Fort Collins' Summit Dog Training — ran through exercises specifically tailored for dogs in brewery settings.

For years, Quann said she taught a handful of these skills in her regular dog training classes, but due to demand over the past eight months, she recently broke them out into "Drink With Your Dog: Brewery Manners." The larger four-week course fits into the culture of beer-soaked Fort Collins, which welcomed its 23rd brewery earlier this year.
