The person who was killed in traffic accident on I-70 near Brighton Blvd. last weekend has been identified as John Anderson.

The office says an autopsy has been completed and the cause and manner of death is pending investigation.

Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda, 26, was charged on Thursday with vehicular homicide-DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving death in this case.

Denver prosecutors believe Zamarripa-Castaneda was driving drunk when he caused the crash on I-70. They say he left the scene and was later arrested at his home.

For days, federal immigrations officials had wanted the city of Denver to notify them if Zamarripa-Castaneda was getting ready to post bond making himself eligible to leave the downtown jail, due to an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hold on him.

On Sunday, Zamarripa-Castaneda bonded out of jail.

A spokesperson for the Denver Sheriff Department said the jail alerted Immigration and Customs Enforcement an hour after Zamarripa-Castaneda walked out of the jail.

As a consequence, ICE was never able to pick up Zamarripa-Castaneda for possible deportation.

The Denver Sheriff Department has ordered an immediate internal review to try to figure out what happened.
