DURANGO — Steam train passenger service resumed Thursday for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad after it was suspended for more than a month due to the 416 Fire.
All train operations were suspended on June 2 due to the fire which burned more than 54,000 acres 13 miles north of Durango. At last check, it was 50 percent contained.
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad launched three daily diesel locomotive excursions to multiple locations on June 22 and had hoped to resume its steam operations from Durango to Silverton by July 4. That was delayed until July 12.
