DENVER — Denver is opening its doors this weekend.

History buffs and those who are simply curious can explore more than 60 gems of the city for free.

The annual event takes place on Saturday and Sunday and features everything from Mile High stadium to The Brown Palace to the Mayan Theatre.

The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is one of six sites in Five Points participating in this year's event. The 3rd floor will be open as a museum, featuring the stories of African Americans who came and settled in the West.

"People will come to see things they did not know were happening in Five Points, meet some of the people and see and hear those stories," Charleszine Nelson, special collection and community resource manager for the library said. "Authentic stories really tell how and why people came to the west. Those special history nuggets that are unforgettable."

There is also a walkable concentration of sites in the Highlands neighborhood.

Other than the free, self-guided open tours, Doors Open Denver also includes ticketed guided tours and arts and culture events at several of the sites.
