Preschoolers support 9Cares Colorado Shares

Primrose Preschools hoped to donate 20,000 pounds of food and other items to the Food Bank of the Rockies in support of 9Cares Colorado Shares.

They may be young, but students at Primrose Schools are already giving back to those in need.

"I brought canned food and sauce. I brought sauce," said Alex.

"I brought chips and healthy and nutritious food and veggies," said Audrey.

Over the past few weeks Alex, Audrey and other students at 25 Primrose schools have been collecting donations. The school has been partnering with the Food Bank of the Rockies for about 15 years.

"Well every year, we try to do a little bit more and a little bit more," said teacher Virginia Payne. "We're hoping to reach 20,000 pounds."

The donations support the 9Cares Colorado Share food drive which is this Saturday November 18. However, since there was so much food and other items collected, the schools delivered the items on Thursday directly to the food bank's warehouse.

"We've actually brought an array of things. We brought out non-perishables," said Payne. "We also brought formulas for the babies as well, diapers and things of that nature as well to make sure that there is enough."

Payne says the best part of the donation drive is seeing how excited the young students get about helping their communities.

"We were talking this morning, and the kids were saying things like, 'Well you can also bring money too if you don't have any food'," said Payne. "So on our way over here, that's all they kept saying, 'We're taking the food, it's going to be so nice'."

"If we can do it, you can too," said students Audra and Alex.
