GOLDEN - Heritage Square, the Victorian-themed entertainment village, will close at the end of 2015.

"We are announcing the closure of Heritage Square in advance of the season to afford the public the opportunity to enjoy the property, shops and attractions one final season," Heritage Square property manager Peter Bovis said in a statement.

Heritage Square was opened by Woodmoor Corporation in 1971, but the site dates back to the 1950s.

"Heritage Square has struggled for a number of years," vice president and general manager David Hagerman said. "It's been uneconomical for many, many years."

The closure includes the alpine slide along with the shops and businesses. The amusement park and Victorian Event Center will remain open as stand-alone operations.

"The way the venue was laid out, and the purpose for it has changed over the years," Hagerman said, citing a drop in visitors. "What people want in entertainment has changed."

"We've looked at this, there's a lot of money that would need to be invested into Heritage Square to bring it back to what people may have remembered from 20 years ago. We're hopeful everybody will come out for this last season and support the vendors and entertainers," he added.

Heritage Square's last day will be December 31, 2015.
