STEM students send thank yous to sheriff's office after school shooting

As a thank you, STEM School Highlands Ranch students sent a box full of cards, candy snacks, and coffee to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — It was more than two weeks ago when two shooters opened fire inside STEM School Highlands Ranch. Now, students who were there are thanking the first responders that rushed into the school that day.

One student,18-year-old Kendrick Castillo, was killed and 8 others were injured in the May 7 shooting. Two suspects, who were also students at the school, are both being held without bond.

On the day of the shooting, Police and deputies rushed to help, comfort, and console the nearly 1,800 students enrolled at STEM School Highlands Ranch, a K-12 charter academy with an elementary, middle and high school campus. The youngest student evacuated that day were kindergarteners.

On Thursday, many of those students reached out to say thank you. 

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office posted a photo of a box full of thank-you cards, candy snacks, coffee and gift cards that was delivered to the station.
