DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Allegiant, Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines are all carriers that people love to complain about for their notorious unbundling pricing practices that make passengers pay for every little extra thing beyond a seat on the plane.

But as respected trade pub Airline Weekly’s 2018 annual Global Earnings Scorecard makes abundantly clear, the complainers look to be giving these three ultra-low-fare carriers plenty of business nonetheless.

All three of the aforementioned airlines wound up among the top 10 carriers in the world with the best operating profit margins — the metric most commonly used to compare airlines of different sizes and types. The scorecard, which was released Tuesday, is based on data collected between April 2017 and March 2018.

Noted Seth Kaplan, managing partner at Airline Weekly: “Maybe people love low fares more than they hate the things they don’t like about these airlines.”
