11 things Colorado drivers know to be true

The 9NEWS.com team decided to do an in-depth analysis of Colorado drivers.

KUSA - If you are remotely affiliated with Atlanta or people who are slightly affiliated with Atlanta, you might have seen the below Facebook post dealing with Georgia drivers.

This got us thinking about folks in Colorado ... we're certainly a little bit different, but definitely have our own sets of problems and quirks on the road. So, the ladies of the 9NEWS.com team put their heads together and came up with this list of things we've noticed about driving in Denver.

One of us is a transplant, the other's a native, and the third gave up her car and walks everywhere. Think there's stuff we're missing? Weigh in on the 9NEWS Facebook page: https://bit.ly/2Lslp1w

1. If you have out-of-state plates, it’s best you don’t drive (especially on the interstate) until you no longer have out-of-state plates. Also, once you get in-state plates, you’ll start to give out-of-state-plates a side eye for no real reason. (LOOKIN’ AT YOU, TEXANS)

2. Rush hour is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and then 2 p.m. until a time that is TBD. Also, rush hour on Friday begins at 5 a.m. and doesn’t end until after the bars close on Saturday.

3. People who use their horns are definitively transplants. Natives are pretty chill (unless we’re in the Trader Joe’s parking lot, then all bets are off).

4. I-25 between Broadway and I-70 will be congested on a Sunday (and Saturday) afternoon for literally no reason.

5. DON’T SPEED THROUGH EMPIRE. Or Morrison.

6. Ski traffic is a reality. And if it snows just a little, quadruple the time of your commute … even though EVERYONE IS IN A SUBARU AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IN SNOW BECAUSE THEY LIVE IN COLORADO.

7. You don’t really have to stop at an intersection unless the light has been red for like, at least 5 seconds. There’s a buffer period for drivers, especially on Speer. Yellow means speed up, not slow down.

8. If you have plans to drive on I-25 at Arapahoe for any reason, make sure you have a full tank of gas, because the odds that something will catch fire and you’ll be stranded for hours are insanely high.

9. Don’t go near Capitol Hill unless you know how to parallel park and dodge joggers.

10. Be prepared to smell weed when you cross Santa Fe on I-25 at any time of day. Also be prepared to smell pet food on I-70 in Elyria Swansea once you pass the Purina Pet Food Plant. It’s part of our charm.

11. MOST IMPORTANTLY: If you're lost, look for Colfax. Then you'll know you're at least in Colorado
