DENVER — Dear Denver natives,
I am what so many of you like to call a “transplant.”
Before you tell me to go home, let me first say that I completely understand your frustration. I get it. I’m a Seattle native. Similar to Denver, my hometown is filled with transplants, too.
This week, I experienced my first big Denver snow. Before you blame me for the 22-car pileup on Interstate 70, let me tell you one thing. I’m good at driving in the snow. In fact, I’m really good at it.
A transplant who can navigate their way around messy, slick roads? Unbelievable!
While I grew up in Seattle, which does not see very much snow, I was forced to take snow driving lessons in drivers ed. I also spent several years in Eastern Washington, which sees a lot of snow every year. I lived on top of a hill and had to navigate around steep, winding roads every day.
Yes, my car slides from time to time, but I know to pump my brakes and correct my steering wheel.
All I’m saying is, don’t be so quick to place blame. Not all of us are out here making your morning commute longer.
