Three is the magic number for UNC basketball

Northern Colorado men's basketball isn't afraid to shoot from behind the arc. The team may only be 3-1 this season, but they're going to ride their "three-ball for the win" mentality as long as they're shooting is still hot.

It’s only fitting that the Northern Colorado men’s basketball team opened this season 3-0. Three seems to be a fitting number for the Bears.

“You know that fast paced offense? It’s fun to watch and it’s fun to play in," UNC freshman from Highlands Ranch Sam Masten said following their season opening win against Colorado College.

The UNC Bears fun has been record breaking. “We want to get open threes, lay ups and free throws,” said third year Head Coach Jeff Linder.

Yes, the Bears like to shoot the three ball. In fact, opening night the Bears threw it up from behind the arc 47 times, making 23 of the long balls. UNC Senior Guard, Jordan Davis added “If you’re open take the shot, if your hot take the shot, that’s our offense. Threes are worth more than two, it doesn’t take a math major to figure that out,” said Linder.

Junior transfer, Trent Harris, leads the way with the trey.

Opening night Trent buried eleven 3’s, a school record and just four shy of the NCAA Division 1 record. “Threes are my specialty I guess, it’s a good opportunity to be on this team,” said Harris.

It’s still early in the season, but the 3-1 Bears are shooting nearly 50 percent from behind the arc. “I don’t see why we can’t break every three-point record there is, even records that we set," said Davis. Coach Linder’s response, “As long as we’re making them we’re going to keep taking them.”
