DENVER--Standing in front of a bunch of happy and grateful families was a new feeling for Shaquil Barrett.

"This is my first time doing something like this," Barrett said. "It was a fun new experience."

The Denver Broncos Linebacker--playing in only his third season in the NFL--found time during a busy week to give back to the community on Tuesday.

"It's just something that I wanted to do," Barrett said. "Being able to help out and put a smile on someone's face is great."

Although, Barrett provided people with a whole lot more than just a smile this holiday season.

Teaming up with Safeway, Barrett gave gifts and meals to 48 families in need in Colorado.

"The goal is that they can have a pretty good dinner on Christmas night and a couple days after that," Barrett said. "And, they can hopefully play some fun games during good family time so they don't have to worry about the daily struggles they're going through."

On the field, Barrett wears number 48, which now takes on much greater significance for many throughout the Denver area.
