Former CSU QB Nick Stevens is Plan D ... for now

Anything can happen in the NFL.

Denver — Call him Plan D.

If Case Keenum should go down and then Paxton Lynch and then Chad Kelly ... Nick Stevens will get the call. Although at that point John Elway would probably call another team to make a trade, but at least for now, the former Colorado State quarterback is being paid to play.

There is certainly a local flavor to the new Broncos, but how long will it last? Sam Jones was drafted plus the offensive line needs help so you have to like the chances for the former ThunderRidge High School star. Phillip Lindsay is one of CU's best running backs ever and even though he comes in the college free agent route, it seems to make sense that he would stay in some way.

Then there's Nick Stevens. The quarterback is a long shot at best to make this team. He's likely a camp arm only, but in the NFL, you never know.

"It's so surreal," Stevens said. "It's really really cool being around these guys. Just being on the same field with them is incredible. It's also really cool to be here and have all the Broncos gear and stuff but I'm excited to be hear and have any opportunities I get."

As a former CSU Ram, Stevens also realizes he has a lot of support.

"I'm just down the road from where I played my college ball and and everyone in California is pumped for me as well so there were a lot of people to find the news, but no one was as excited as I was," Stevens said.

Getting the invitation to play was nice, but the longer he can stay the better it will be.
