Former Grandview first baseman Greg Bird is called up to Yankees

KUSA -- Grandview High School former first baseman and catcher is called up to play with the New York Yankees Bird told 9NEWS Sports Anchor Drew Soicher today. Back in 2011 Bird told Soicher, "The fact that it was the Yankees makes it cool; I'm excited and it's a big deal."

Bird, 22-years-of-age, was picked in the fifth-round by the New York Yankees in 2011. He began this year in Double A baseball with the Trenton Thunder in Trenton, NJ before being promoted to the Yankees Triple A club, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in Moosic, Pennsylvania. 

In his 34 games with the RailRiders Bird has a .301 batting average, 15 runs scored, 6 home runs, and 23 batters run in. Bird is one of the Yankees top prospects and considered one of the "untouchable" prospects for the Yankees during the 2015 MLB Trade Deadline. 

Game time is scheduled for 5:10 MST. Bird will bat 7th tonight.
