Chatfield advances after five point second half versus Denver East

The Chatfield Chargers advance to the second round of the 5A girls soccer state playoffs after a big 5-0 victory over the Denver East Angels.

First round of playoff girls soccer is underway and the No. 7 ranked Chatfield Chargers hosted the No. 23 ranked Denver East Angels for a first round 5A match-up at Lakewood Memorial Field on Tuesday night.

Taking control early, the Chargers racked up offensive chances in the first half largely due to their dominant time of possession.

Although they would test the East defense, neither team would net a goal in the first half.

Sun down and ready for the second, something clicked offensively for Chatfield sending them on a goal scoring surge following the intermission.

Less than five minutes in Chargers sophomore Hannah Peterson netted the first goal off a header from the corner and that's when their momentum built.

Chatfield would score again a little over a minute following their first goal then three more times before the buzzer sounded.

Peterson recorded two goals in the win and teammates Makala Woodford, Kylie Wells, and Halley Kemmer also netted a goal apiece in Chatfield's 5-0 victory over Denver East.

The Chargers will now play the No. 10 ranked Fossil Ridge Sabercats in the second round of the 5A playoffs after the Sabercats took down No. 23 ranked Valor Christian in overtime.
