LAKEWOOD — Playoff soccer is back.
In an opening-round match of the Class 5A girls state championship bracket, 11-seed Columbine shut out 22-seed Boulder at Lakewood Memorial Field on Tuesday evening.
The Rebels scored both of their goals in the 2-0 victory in the second half to advance.
After playing a scoreless first half, Columbine put one on the board in the 60th minute when Peyton Weber put home a deflection in front for the first goal, which was assisted by Riley Kaali-Nagy.
The Rebels quickly followed their initial strike up with a goal from Tessa Barton on a penalty shot just more than a minute later.
Columbine will move on to play 6-seed Regis Jesuit, which won 6-0 over 27-seed Prairie View, in the second round at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Boulder's season ends with an 8-6-2 overall record.
