AURORA — Just one playoff game in and Eaglecrest is rolling on to the quarterfinals.
The Raptors, who entered as a No. 4 seed in the Class 5A football playoff bracket, had an opening-round bye before getting to postseason action against No. 20 Lakewood in the second round at Legacy Stadium on Friday night.
They acted quickly in the 48-15 victory, recovering a fumble on the opening possession and scoring a touchdown from quarterback Dylan James, who ran in from 35 yards with less than 2 minutes gone from the clock.
That set the tone for the rest of the night.
Eaglecrest (10-1) put up three more touchdowns -- a 13-yard run from Jalen Stewart, a 49-yard pass from James to Ty Robinson, and a long 66-yard James rush -- to take a 28-0 lead by halftime.
Lakewood got its first score in the third quarter when Elias Borjas came down with an interception, then caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Pierce Holley on the next play.
But the Raptors would answer with touchdowns by Isaiah Emecheta (12-yard run) and Sebastian Andujar (5-yard run) to help secure their playoff win.
Eaglecrest will play the winner of Saturday's game between No. 5 Grandview and No. 21 Legacy in the quarterfinals next week.
Lakewood ends its 2018 season with a 4-8 overall record.
