CHSAA cancels remaining state basketball games

The decision was announced late Thursday night amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

DENVER — The 2020 high school basketball tournament has come to an abrupt halt.

In a statement released late Thursday night, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) announced that the remainder of state playoff games had been canceled to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The girls played their Final Four games on Thursday and the boys were slated to do the same Friday -- with the championships on Saturday.

"Everything we've done up to this point was to try and keep the experience of a state basketball tournament for our student participants and high school communities," CHSAA commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green said in the statement.

"In the face of this unprecedented public health emergency, we are compelled to discontinue play in all tournaments."
