Grandview defends crown as 6A girls basketball champions

The Wolves defeated the Monarch Coyotes 38-28 in the Class 6A girls state title game Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.

DENVER — Despite the odds, the Wolves ran it back.

Grandview, the No. 11 seed in the Class 6A girls basketball playoff bracket, completed its run through the postseason Saturday afternoon by defeating No. 2 Monarch in the state championship game at the Denver Coliseum.

The Wolves won the Class 5A title in 2022 before the 6A classification was added this winter, going back-to-back as champs.

"If you told us a year ago we'd be here, I'd tell you you're crazy," said sophomore Sienna Betts, who led Grandview with a dominant performance that entailed scoring a game-high 22 points and snagging 20 total rebound.

The state title is the fourth in program history for the Wolves, who finished the season with a 19-9 overall record.

Monarch finishes as state runner-up at 26-2 overall with a season highlighted by a 20-game win streak in route to the title game.
