Holy Family advances to 4A girls championship

The Tigers held off Green Mountain 38-31 in the Final Four on Thursday night.

DENVER — Their road ended here a year ago -- and that's what drove the Holy Family girls basketball team.

In 2019, the Tigers were bounced in the Class 4A Final Four by eventual state champion Mullen. Making another Final Four appearance on Thursday evening at the Denver Coliseum, they flipped the script with a 38-31 win over Green Mountain to advance.

"I've never felt anything like this before," Holy Family junior Cecelia Aanerud said. "To come back and win is the most exciting thing ever."

Alyssa Wells led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points while Aanerud added nine. Green Mountain's leading scorer was Courtney Hank, who had eight points.

Ironically enough, 7-seed Holy Family will have a rematch with 9-seed Mullen in Saturday's state title game, which tips off at noon at the Coliseum.

3-seed Green Mountain's season ends with a 24-3 overall record.
