AURORA, Colo. — They say it's hard to beat the same team twice. The Mullen girls basketball team would beg to differ.

The Mustangs, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, defeated Cherokee Trail (5A No. 9) for the second time this season on Wednesday night, 69-47 in the Cougars' gym.

It was their second time playing in Cherokee Trail a classification above them, the first was a dominant 51-29 victory in the championship game of the Castle View/ThunderRidge Tip-Off tournament back on Dec. 7.

"It gave us a little more confidence coming in, but we still battled with them. It was a good game," junior point guard Morgan Pohs said. "Playing good teams like CT just gets us ready for playoffs and we can take what we learned here into 4A."

The win improved Mullen to 10-4 on the season, all of their defeats dealt by either 5A or out-of-state opponents. Cherokee Trail falls to 10-5.
