Mullen girls return to championship game

The Mustangs survived a 64-57 overtime scare against Berthoud in the Final Four on Thursday.

DENVER — The champs are heading back to defend their crown.

Mullen survived a 64-57 overtime scare from Berthoud in the Class 4A girls basketball Final Four at the Denver Coliseum on Thursday to advance.

The Mustangs will face Holy Family -- the team they bounced from last year's Final Four -- in the state championship game at noon Saturday.

Mullen's Megan Pohs was the star of Thursday's game, putting up a game-high 30 points which included hitting five 3-pointers. The Mustangs also had 12 points from Abby Webster.

"I definitely feel like there's a target on our back, but that has made us work a lot harder this entire season," Pohs said. "They gave us a run for our money. Hopefully just making us better for our next game."

Scoring a team-high 21 points for Berthoud was Breanna Fowler. Ally Padilla also reached double figures for the Spartans with 14 points.

Berthoud's season ends with a 24-3 overall record.
